From pure alpine roots, having been brought up in the mountains, Hansjörg now concentrates on sport and alpine climbing, with a number of incredible free solo ascents. These include in 2007 ‘Il Pesce’ (Weg durch den Fisch) - an awe inspiring 37 pitch slab on the south face of the Marmolada in the Italian Dolomites, and the first free ascent of ‘Hallucinogen Wall in Black Canyon,Colorado in 2011.

Joint General Manager of EOCA Tanya Bascombe said, “We are thrilled to welcome Hansjörg to the team. He is a dedicated and inspiring athlete, full of enthusiasm for life , yet also passionate about the impact that we have on the environment around us. He will be a great asset to the association and we look forward to working with him very much”.

Speaking from his home in Umhausen, as he prepares for his forthcoming expedition to tackle big walls on Baffin Island, Hansjörg said he was delighted with his new role, “I love the EOCA model. It is a neutral organisation, working together with the biggest outdoor brands to protect nature – somthing we all need to be proactive in doing. We have to think about the sustainability of what we are doing in our every day lives, and being part of EOCA is a massive step in the right direction.
